PS Dr. Juma Mukwahana Discusses Industrial Development and Security with NDU-K Delegation

Industrial Development and Security with National Defence University of Kenya (NDU-K) Delegation

Dr. Juma Mukwahana, Principal Secretary, State Department for Industry, met with a delegation from the National Defence University of Kenya (NDU-K), who paid him a visit in his office.
The PS emphasized the role of effective governance in driving industrial progress, stating, "Development is formed by structures and systems of governance that lead to seamless industrialization." He highlighted how efficient governance systems are fostering industrial growth and achieving long-term economic development.
He also noted the significant potential within Kenya in the manufacturing sector, driven largely by the hard-working nature of Kenyans. He expressed optimism about the country’s ability to tap into this potential with the right policies and support systems.
Brig. David Chesire, from NDU-K, reinforced the importance of security in industrial development. "Security is a determinant in industry development, infrastructure, and connectivity," said Brig. Chesire. "There is a distinct link between security and industry." He stressed the need for strong policies and structures that would align the security and industrial sectors, enabling them to flourish and contribute to national growth.
Dr. Mukwahana also emphasized the importance of regional collaboration, urging African countries to unite in order to unlock opportunities in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. "There is a need for African countries to work together to unlock opportunities available in the industry and manufacturing space," he said. The PS further stressed the importance of demystifying industry and entrepreneurship to encourage fostering local and international trade.
Today's engagement reflects Kenya's continued commitment to strengthening the links between governance, security, and industrial development while also promoting greater cooperation among African nations in the industrial sector. Right policies have seen Kenya be among the best performing countries in East Africa in industry and manufacturing.
