Steering Committee for the Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa (EELA) Project Launched
The Industrialization Secretary, Prof. Erastus Gatebe, on behalf of the PS for Industry Dr. Juma Mukhwana officially launched the Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa (EELA) Kenya Window Country Project Steering Committee.
The project is a collaboration between the State Departments for Industry and Energy, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), East Africa Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Efficiency (EACREEE) as well as the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
The objective of this project is to stimulate inclusive and sustainable economic growth through an integrated Energy Efficiency (EE) project. The project is aimed at accelerating lighting linked to EELA project in East and Southern Africa.

“This inaugural meeting marks the official commencement that will bring like minded stakeholders together in an effort to identify and steer innovative approaches that will enhance energy efficiency in the manufacturing sector,” Prof Gatebe remarked.
The project will enhance implementation of the Kenya National Efficiency Energy and Conversation Strategy, (NEECS), 2020 by transforming investment in the low carbon industrial sector, developing repair skills and adopting innovating technologies and practices reduction that will lead to sustainable maintenance of energy equipment.
UNIDO as a partner has emphasized the need for all the stakeholders to collaborate so as to ensure the unique needs of the different sectors including government agencies, financial institutions and industry sectors are catered for.
Prof. Gatebe was also accompanied by Directors Gideon Oele (Engineering and Construction), Roy Nyangena (Policy and Research) and Evelyne Anupi (Planning). The event was also graced by UNIDO Kenya Deputy Representative, Ms. Linet Luvai, among others.
