WORLD METROLOGICAL DAY
The Principal Secretary for Industry, Dr. Juma Mukhwana has challenged his staff to use their public spaces and opportunities to create more industries. He spoke this morning when he graced the World Metrology Day celebrations, themed "Measurements for All Times, for All People."
The event was held to celebrate and highlight the critical role of measurement systems in daily life. The day was marked to highlight the need for inclusivity and reliability of metrological systems.
In his remarks, the PS said that through the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), the Government ensures accurate and credible measurements across the country.
“As the Ministry of Industry, we recognize this vital role and are actively working to strengthen our national metrology system,” he said.
KEBS is at the forefront of developing national measurement standards, offering calibration services, and maintaining traceability to international systems.
Dr. Juma Mukhwana also challenged his staff to change their mindsets from consumers to producers to enhance creation of more industries.
"Our role is to make a difference through creation of industries", he added.
National Standards Council Chair, Dr. Chris Wamalwa, recapped the importance of reliable and accurate metrological and measurement structures in building trust.
“Metrology must not be a privilege for a few but a tool for collective prosperity.”
Also in attendance was KEBS Managing Director, Esther Ngari who emphasized the need for precision in metrology.
“Precision is not a luxury, it is a necessity for progress, trust and prosperity.” She said
The event was also attended by ARSO Secretary General, Dr. Hermogene Nsengimana, Regional Director, UNESCO Eastern Africa office, Ms. Louise Haxthausen among other stakeholders.
